Welcome to the NH Homemaker Blog
Hello! Thanks for stopping by! My name is Mariah Akers and I'm The NH Homemaker. Historically, I've been in the medical field since graduating high school. I started out as a medical assistant, to then teaching medical assistants, then onto nursing school. I practiced in nursing for 5+ years before deciding to put down my stethoscope and grab a pitch fork! I didn't just randomly stumble upon the idea of farming, I was raised with horses and later on a small beef farm. It became my life goal/motto to 'Grow Food for My Family'. So I started to garden, raise chickens for eggs, and then raising hogs. In time my idea of raising food for my family flourished and turned into a business. My goals changed and became, 'Family Grown Food for Families'. For so long I have been called to write a blog but have never taken the opportunity to get my fingers to the keys. Its a bit of a scary step! But, one I am excited to welcome into my life.
Why do I call myself The NH Homemaker, you ask? Well, it all started with a vision to grow and produce food straight from my hands for my family and share what knowledge I have gained with others. One thing led to another and I took the opportunity to build a business out of my farming hobby and here I am. I've known for quite a few years that I wanted to call my blog and myself the NH homemaker. I liked this name because I live in NH and I really am a homemaker. I stay at home with my two boys and school them as well as run the house and the homestead, and farm business. To me, a homemaker is one who takes on all the roles to run a home and make it a home! So with that, The NH Homemaker was born.
I am excited to share with you all things homemaking, homeschooling, and homesteading; The 3 H's as I will call them! As well as my journey to a healthier wellbeing and living with Indolent Systemic Mastocytosis. Be prepared to be immersed in my life's story as I plan to share the good and the bad. Show you the truths of it all!
So this is the beginning of something wonderful and scary! But, I am so ready to finally start this journey of writing and sharing.
